My Journey

Where I came from, what I studied, and what shaped how I build software today.

Chapter 01 · Origin

Where it all started

I loved software before I had a class for it. I taught myself by staying up late researching how computers actually worked, then trying things until they clicked. Friends and classmates treated me as the tech guy: the person you called when something broke, or when you wanted a tool that didn't exist yet.

Programming started with an FPS. I wanted an edge in the game, so I built applications to do so, and that is how I first ran into Visual Basic. I wrote a simple loader in Visual Basic, built the real logic as a C++ DLL, and used Cheat Engine 6 to find what to change in memory. Staying up at night, tinkering, bypassing, and making it work. Those were the fun days, and the first time I realized I could make the machine do what I wanted.

Chapter 02 · University

Brigham Young University – Hawaii

Bachelor of Science, Computer Science · April 2025 · CGPA 4.0 · Summa Cum Laude

Before university, I spent two years as a full-time volunteer in Melbourne. Khmer is my first language, and I taught myself English and Vietnamese there by studying on my own and talking with people every day. Knowing what it's like to sit in a room and not follow what's being said is a big part of why I'm building In Your Language now.

Four years on a small campus in Lāʻie taught me as much about collaboration as algorithms. I minored in Communication, Media and Culture and Entrepreneurship, worked as a CS tutor and teaching assistant, spent countless evenings in the lab preparing for competitions, and built internal apps for university departments in a part-time developer job.

Whatever I take on, I give it 100%. I don't aim for the A, I aim for 100%. I own it end to end, whether it's a project, an assignment, or actually understanding the course material instead of just getting through it. I love learning, so I'm usually the first to raise my hand, ask the question others are wondering about, and get things moving. I love teaching and sharing what I know just as much.

Chapter 03 · Achievements

Competition & Honors

I competed in ICPC at the Pacific Northwest Hawaii Site — winning Division 2 in 2023 and Division 1 in 2024. Those contests sharpened how I think under pressure: decompose the problem, choose the right data structure, and commit before the clock runs out.

I received the department's Most Outstanding Graduate award and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA, and was inducted into the Upsilon Pi Epsilon and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. I also founded the Computer Science Student Association, bringing students together for coding practice, technical workshops, career conversations, and plenty of laughter. People tend to say I'm the funny one, and I think a room learns better when it's laughing.

What I'm up to these days

Where I'm spending my time right now.

  1. May 2025 – Present

    Software Developer · ArtVue

I'm one of two core engineers at an early-stage art-streaming startup that ships to the web, mobile, and five TV platforms. I own much of the central API and its cloud infrastructure, and I take features end to end, from system design through the client apps to production rollout.

    Subscriptions and access
Built subscription handling across several app stores and payment providers, so a purchase on one device unlocks the others.
    Real-time and concurrency
Built real-time features that keep the apps in sync across devices. Fixed race conditions found under concurrent load with atomic updates and transactions.
    Discovery, performance, and launches
Built a personalized recommendation feed and later roughly halved its response time without changing its results. Took two TV apps through store certification and launch, and kept the infrastructure defined as code.

  2. May 2026 – Present

Founder & Sole Developer · In Your Language

I founded and built In Your Language on my own, a live translation service for events. One person speaks, and everyone in the audience follows along on their own phone, reading or listening in their language. I handle all of it: product, design, backend, real-time delivery, payments, and operations. It's currently in beta.

The interesting part is keeping it fast and fair for a whole room at once: each sentence is translated once and shared, only one presenter holds the mic, and bookings can't oversell a room.
